Born in the Hollywood Hospital I was blessed to have been first surrounded by a little slice of paradise as I spent the earlier years of my life growing up in Pasadena, California. Attending private school while in California I often called attention to myself for talking too much with my fellow classmates. But the work ethic and typing skills stuck with me and laid a good base for later endeavors.
I've been fascinated with the power of photography as far back as I can remember. My first camera was a 35mm film camera at age 13. I shot mostly during our family vacations and lifestyle pictures within our daily lives. My first ah-ha moment came after I sent off some vacation pictures (in the mail) to my grandfather who was the known photography aficionado within the family. I got feedback about leading the pictures with subject matter and creating a scene rather then catching a blah moment that shows no action. This fed the fire of fascination with photography. I took film classes in high school which continued to encourage my love to photograph and artistically document life. But then I graduated high school and put my training in photography on hold while I joined the military and spent the next seven years of my life dedicated to that job. I didn't stop shooting all together and I'm happy to say I continued to take pictures during my four deployments and any extensive travelling I ventured on. After completing my service in the military I was more than ready to learn and do more in the realm of photography. I started pursuing a degree in photojournalism. This began with film classes (in 2010 at a community college) and finally progressed to training in digital photography with follow-on classes. My degree path wrapped up with me completing a bachelor's degree from University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. Now I have defined my specialty in Adventure Lifestyle and Vacation Photography; aka 'ALiVe Photography' - photographing the moments when people feel ALiVe to capture those AMAZING moments which tell YOUR STORY!
When we are born into this world we can immediately SEE, HEAR, FEEL, and TASTE everything around us. Our personal experiences help shape and develop an individual perspective unique to these experiences. After developing an initial perspective we then learn to speak and communicate with others. Most of our life is then spent communicating this personal perspective to others. We can easily speak upwards of a 1000 words to share our own view or perspective with others so that they might understand how and what we see. The adage, 'a picture is worth a 1000 words' sums up this perspective sharing which photography bridges, allowing us to easily share what we see in the world around us.
